RHY-317 ~  Appalachian Mountain Bluegrass: 30 Vintage Classics

Of late, Appalachia has been romanticized in movies, stories, and songs. Many songs like the ones on this collection are snapshots of life as it was lived in the most forgotten part of our nation. If folklorists had gone into the small towns, hill communities, and hollers throughout the southeast during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, we might understand how the music of the old and new worlds melted into one. We might understand how parlor songs and minstrel music made their way into isolated rural communities. We might see how black performers introduced the banjo and the blues to white performers. We might understand how the cadences and melodies and fervor of religious music slipped into secular music. Fiddle, banjo, and the occasional mandolin or guitar was what you would have heard. And songs like these.

RHY-318 ~  31 Bluegrass Favorites: Classics Instrumentals - Top Picks & Hot Licks

These tunes are truly vintage and respected bluegrass classics
and are preserved here on this new heritage collection executed
with the fl air that distinguishes the great artists from the rest.

The founder of Rural Rhythm Records, Uncle Jim O’Neal, got into
the bluegrass record business just as the bigger companies were
getting out of it. He saw that the major labels’ lack of interest in
bluegrass left the fi eld wide open. Rural Rhythm was launched in
1955, and helped keep bluegrass and old time music alive during
some very lean years by recording hundreds of albums by many
legendary bluegrass artists such as Don Reno, Red Smiley,
Vassar Clements, Mac Martin, Hylo Brown, Jim Eanes, Earl
Taylor, Bill Harrell, Raymond Fairchild and many more.

RHY-319   ~ Get In Line Brother:  Real Mountain Bluegrass Gospel

Gospel music has been an integral part of bluegrass even in its early days
when it began to take shape in churches in the southern United States. In the
early to mid-1900’s when country folks weren’t playing music on their front
porch or at the town picnic, they’d play it in church on Sunday Morning.

Recently, old-time mountain music has been romanticized in movies,
stories, and songs as much as it was embraced and related to in earlier
times. We now can see how Appalachian old-time mountain music and
traditional gospel music came together years ago to create this special
blend of traditional bluegrass gospel music that we all know and love.
